Our story
From a single observation in 2021 to a platform that reaches workers on site, in the factory and in care every day.
- 2021
The idea
- Michael van de Watering tells Kees van Nuland that his training company had its own app built. The content was good, but nobody used the app.
- The insight: bring learning to the app everyone already opens every day. WhatsApp is the obvious choice.
- 2022
The first test and the founding
- The first version of E-lia is tested with the facilities department of Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. Staff complete the modules on their tea break or on the way home.
- The results are so good that E-lia is formally set up as a company.
- 2024
Toolbox talks at De Rycke
- Concrete producer De Rycke chooses toolbox talks via WhatsApp. Read the customer story.

- 2025
The toolbox talk library and Jan De Nul
- Launch of the toolbox talk library: now more than 80 ready-made toolbox talks you can use straight away.
- Pilot with Jan De Nul: site inductions via WhatsApp, so everyone knows the rules before they arrive on site.
- More Belgian companies come on board.

- 2026
More than toolbox talks
- Forms via WhatsApp: workplace inspections and the LMRA, with photo and time stamp.
- Site inductions for everyone who enters the site.
- Automatic translation into any language, both the text and the video with voice-over.
- E-lia launches in the United Kingdom.
